What language do you teach?
I teach both French and German to all age groups and at various levels.  For more details please visit the Tuition page.

Do you teach young children?
Yes, I teach children from the age of 2. For Nursery/Preschool/KS1 children I offer 30-minute lessons and 30-minute or 45-minute lessons are available for KS2 children. I have an Enhanced Disclosure from the DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service, previously CRB Criminal Records Bureau) which I am happy to show you before you book a lesson for your child. For more details please visit the Tuition page.

Do you have classes?
I run a French class for adult beginners. Click here for more information. I also teach small groups of 4 students maximum at my home. Small group lessons is an economical way of having regular lessons to supplement your schoolwork, revise for exams or to learn with a friend, your husband/wife without the disadvantages a large class setting.

Where do you teach?
I teach online, at the student's home/office and at my home in Southampton (Imperial Avenue, SO15 8PZ) where I can provide a quiet environment. Imperial Avenue is 2 minutes from Shirley High Street and 5 minutes from the motorways M271/M27. There are also several buses stopping nearby: First buses no. 10/10A, 17/17A, 4, 8, 21 and Bluestars buses no. 4.
I also teach at Santo Lounge on Shirley Road.

Do you offer online tuition?
Yes, I teach online too. Online tuition is more cost-effective as there is no travel involved and you can learn from the comfort of your home or office. For more details please visit the Tuition page.

Do I have to book weekly lessons?
No, you are not expected to book weekly lessons. You can have fortnightly lessons, less regular lessons or just have a one-off lesson if you need to practise for an interview or need help with writing and essay, for example.

I do irregular working hours, can I book lessons?
Of course! Lessons don't have to be at the same time or day every week.

I have an exam to prepare, when should I have lessons?
Most students see me throughout the year, so that they are regularly building on their schoolwork and preparing for their exams. That way they feel less stressed and have time to work on their weaknesses. Some students just see me near exam time but there is no guarantee of a last-minute availabilty. The sooner you get in touch the better.

Do I need to prepare for the lessons?
You don’t need to prepare anything for the first lesson: I will assess your level and discuss a programme of study with you. I set some homework at the end of each lesson. I do recommend that you do your homework fairly soon after the lesson so that you consolidate what we’ve done. During lessons I am also very happy to go through written work that you’ve done or help with an oral presentation you have to give.

How long will take me to be fluent?
Learning a foreign language is a long process. You cannot expect to be fluent after 12 hours or 3 months of tuition. The speed at which you will achieve fluency requires commitment and depends on factors such as your initial level, your motivation, the time spent on practising outside lessons, the knowledge of another foreign language, your contact with the language, etc. In other words, the more you practise the sooner you will get fluent.

Will I receive a certificate at the end of the course?
No, nzLanguages provides private tuition and does not offer language certificate/qualification. However, I will help you prepare examinations leading to external language qualification you may wish to take. I am also happy to provide a reference if needed.

How much is the lesson?
Prices vary on the type of lesson, the student age group, etc.  Please visit the Prices page or contact me for more details.

Are there extra-costs?
Travel charges apply for lessons outside my home.
Books: I will recommend books with no obligation for you to buy. Sometimes students who prepare for a particular exams such as CBLC or TEF, will need to have their own book.

Can I pay my lesson on the day?
No. Due to an increase in non-payments and no-shows, I now take full payment in advance. Any booked lesson has to be paid within 5 days of the booking date, unless agreed otherwise by me. I invest a lot of time in preparing lessons and private tuition is my employment. I am not someone who tutors for a bit of extra cash without any real commitment. For full Terms and Conditions, please click here.

Do you take payment in euros?
No. I only accept payment in pounds sterling (GBP).

Can I contact you outside lesson time?
Of course! If you have a quick question that is bothering you, you don't have to wait until the next lesson. You can e-mail or call me.

Can you give me a quote on proofreading my document?
Yes, please e-mail your document together with your deadline.

What is the price to copy-edit a document?
Each document is unique in the amount of work required, so I need to see your document before I can give you a quote. Please visit the Proofreading and Copy-editing page or e-mail your document together with your deadline.
